Have not bought it yet! It's a £2000 Sony LCD with a 5 year warranty. I'm a bit worried I'll be stuck with a dead pixel & cannot exchange it in a few years time!

a dead pixel is black and isnt too annoying. a hot pixel is constantly white, and a stuck pixel is a colour. they are very annoying.

some manufacturers have a tolerance with a new lcd screen (allowance of 5 "dead" pixels for example). others have no tolerance so any dead pixels and the screen can be returned. you will need to contact john lewis about this and see what they say. argue you were not informed of the tolerance for dead pixles if they say you cant return it.

I'd challenge you to be able to see a dead pixel on a tv at normal viewing distances on normal picture. Even a stuck pixel is impossible to pick out on tv, particularly an HD tv when there is images on screen.

The actual number of allowable dead pixels is decided by the manufacturer. It's usually around 5 for even a small TV.

Most manufacturers (Sony included) regard one or two dead pixels on an LCD or plasma screen as 'within normal operating parameters'.

Hence, you are unlikely to get a replacement if that problem arises, I'm afraid.

Some mfg. have a policy set to a certain percentage of bad pixels. the number is such that when you calculate the total pixels and then apply the percentage, you get so many it is really annoying. Good Luck.
