XP. Vista still has some backwards-compatiblity problems, and I don't think game makers are going to abandon XP just yet.

By the way, you need a *much* better graphics card than a Nvidia GeForce 440MX to play modern games, especially First Person Shooters or Oblivion. The MX series uses tech that's around 6 years old.

You need a GeForce 5 FX series absolute minimum, preferably 6600 and above. Get at least 512 MB RAM for your computer, or 1 GB if you can afford it.

XP Home. Don't even try to run Vista on a computer with 256MB RAM. XP Media Center is just XP Home with a few additional applications and the latest service packs. XP Pro is really designed more for a business environment.

Windows Vist would be the best choice, because it supports DirectX10 (you will need this for the next generation games), but that wouldn't help you because your graphicscard doesn't support it. And I think you haven't enough RAM for the Vista-features, too. I think WIN XP would be okay, there is no need for media center or pro if you want to game and surf.

GAMING?
Your computer can run only Windows XP (no Vista, no XP64, no Media Center).
imho, you need a new computer for GAMING.

Try for XP pro, it is easier to network onto something and use internet. It is pretty good for gaming, I play Halo all the time on mine.
