it is OK to let my 12 year old boy read/see a magazine with semi nude?
My son and I were at a library reading for 2 hours and when we were leaving he ask me if he could show me a magazine(he was all red, too shy).

The magazine had this beautiful girls and it was sealed (plastic all over)
the name of magazine was FHM .
I have tell mim before that if he has ANY questions about ANY topic he must trust me or his dad, instead of "friends".
He asked me if I could buy it 4 him; I told him that I had to ask his dad 2. My husband did not answer me he just laugh(nicely).
Should we buy it and let him see it (I know that he had click on links on computer and has seen some girls). He will be 13 soon
please help me decide.
Don't you think it is nice that he trust us?

Obscenity is in the eyes of the beholder. Deeply religious people, such as Christians, consider the nude human body offensive.
Some people consider the violent killing of Indians in a John Wayne movie wholesome family entertainment.
Your young son, who is trusting in your good judgment, is now obviously interested in a beautiful women figure. This is natural approach for a mature 13 year old.
Censorship is not the answer. Your son trusts you, and you should trust him to make any decision with your knowledge.

I have 12 year old boys and girls and I would say no. It would probably be appropriate for a 16 year old. These magazines are openly biased toward profane language, subject matter regarding sex, which would be way above a 13 year old. It sends a message of promiscuity and self indulgence. I have even seen articles discussing alcohol and drug use as if it was a common recreation. If he clicks on the computer and sees something he shouldn't or picks up a magazine with articles he shouldn't read is one thing. But a parent buying this type of periodicals sends a message that the subject matter is ok.

There is nothing wrong with seeing a women exposed its completely natural. I do not think you should buy the magazine for him though if you dont want to im surprised the kid actually asked you haha. Most of us would go behind are parents back for things like that. So youve done a very good job raising him if he trusts you enough to ask you. But its just semi nude women he will see it all one day. Hes probably already looking at pornography. Just try not to be too judgemental all young boys are interested in sexuality. There is nothing sinful about it. Just make sure your son understands that he is to respect women. And maybe give a talk to him about condoms and birth control. Even though he is way to young to have intercourse. He is never to young to learn about it.

it's natural that he's curious and interested in women's bodies, but I'd be concerned about the way many magazines portray and objectify women.

google the magazine's webiste, it's not something I'd want my kid looking at. I think Playboy is more respectful of women, or at least it used to be. unfortunately, it's also more airbrushed and fake than it used to be to.

although the woman are only semi naked ... FHM is directed at the more mature male and the content of the magazine i do not feel would be suitable for your boy ...
if he gets a hold of things outside like this ... then he is just being a teen ...
but i dont think it should be handed to him in the home as a matter of principle and respect xx

have to add though ... you seem to have a wonderful relationship though , which is lovely to hear

Yes, it's great that he trusts you. Keep encouraging this behavior and he'll feel nice and comfortable telling you in a year or so he's 1) impregnated a girl and/or 2) contracted a STD.

p.s. -- you need to put a web filter on your computer. A 12 year old shouldn't be looking at porn. It's your responsibility to protect your child!

I don't think FHM is that pornographic. I'd put it a bit past the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue level. If you don't mind it, I think he's probably old enough to handle it. It will also give you an opportunity to discuss it with him. Let's face it, detailed anatomy is only a google click away.

I wouldn't buy it for him, it sounds like the kind of magazine that supports the objectification of women, and you don't want your son to be the kind of guy that treats women as objects.

If he really wants to know about the human body (male or female) offer to get medical books or art books - things that show the body in a way that is intellectual and respectful.

Well, this all depends. I don't think a 13 year old should get a bad impression. I think you should buy the magazine but do not give it to him until you've checked it through.

its awesome that your boy trusts you. but it illegal for an underage boy to buy such magazines despite the almost national rebellion against. If you believe in righteousness you should tell him about chastity and say that he is not old enough.
When he becomes an adult, then he can make the decision for himself. Although most children do see naked girls and pictures before they are 14. Almost all boys that go through puberty have pornographic dreams and nocturnal emissions.
it is written that nocturnal emissions are Unclean and a person must immerse themselves in a michvah and change their clothes, but the acts of using a michvah are done away with through baptism, and it is the physical uncleanness that can be washed away in a daily shower and a change of clothes. Although the internal biochemistry can react upon the body and mind for several days thereafter. and of course jesus said that if anyone looks upon a woman and lusts after her, he is guilty of adultery. but i always asked who is guilty of creating pornographic dreams?
