Playing it is easy, playing it well is hard.

The guitar is one of the easiest to learn, but maybe the hardest to master. On your scale, playing it is about a 1 (assuming that 1 is the easiest), but to play it well, it's a 10.

It also depends on the level of mastery that your planning on learning. I f you want to be rhythm guitar, you won't need to be as good as the lead player.

I've been playing for five years on the classical guitar, and about one on electric. Classical will really give you a boost with your playing, so that's recommended at least by me.

Lead guitar may be the hardest thing ever, though. I've spent countless hours on scales, modes, and chord studies, and I'm still woefully inadequate, but better than most.

Overall, the guitar is a great instrument, so have fun playing!

It depends on you. My brother is way better than I am and he's only been playing maybe 2 years. I started 12 years ago and still am no good. If you practice (cliche! cliche!) you'll have a better shot at becoming worth listening to. Try easy songs first- Sheryl Crow's First Cut is the Deepest has like 3 basic chords. The Beatles Twist and Shout- ditto. The thing is to stretch those fingers and pick playable songs to build your confidence. For me, playing the guitar would be about a 6, while becoming a Doctor would be a 10!

It's not HARD! At first I thought I'd never learn, I felt really pathetic, but here I am about a year and half later playing like I never thought I would be able to...I'm not really good or anything, but compared to what I was expecting I am doing fine! DO IT!

Your friend,
Stephen

EDIT: If I was really into riffs and solos I'd be practicing that, but I am not really into that as of yet. Nothing is hard when you put your mind to it, I just taught myself (my friend helped me get started too) and played ever spare minute I had at first.

EDIT 2: For number rating I say 1 or 2 if you really want to play and are dedicated. Anyone can play guitar! Chords are really not that hard, maybe the barred chords are, but open chords aren't!

If you want anymore info my AIM SN is Blazafan30.

Essentially, its just learning to press down the strings at certain places at the right time. In theory, its quite easy. If you learn notes and bar chords... its not hard. Playing by ear really helps you to become good. It takes longer than reading tabs, but its a lot better in the long run because you'll learn to just be able to hear a song, and pick up on it with your guitar faster than printing tabs and learning them.

it depends on what song your trying to play. Blackbird by the Beatles is a 10, as for bridge over the water is more like 4. It also depends on your ability to learn grasp the concept of which strings to pull and when. Most people who do not know how to play guitar would say 7-10. People that already know like me would say 3-6. It all depends on your standpoint. for a beginner, i would say its about 6.5 to learn the basics of a guitar.

Depends on how good you want to be:

I want to be as good as Stevie Ray Vaughn: 10!

I want to be able to play some songs and have some fun with friends and family: 6!

The guitar is pretty easy in the musical instrument department if you want to have fun. If you want to be a virtuoso it's hard work.

anyone can play anything poorly, but every instrument is a scale number 10 if you want to play it well.

well, it really depends what you're trying to play and if you're pretty musically inclined or not. Some things are harder than others. I've been playing for about a month or 2 and i'd say right now its about a 4
