Finding life (anytype of life, big or small) would probably be the single event to trigger humanity to finally dismiss religion. Most religions are centered around the idea that the Earth and mankind are God's central and only focus. If life were to be found on another planet, it would suggest differently. How would a fundamentalist Christian or any Christian for that matter explain life on another planet as it applies to Genesis?

I don't think a single event will stop people from having a religion.
When people began doing their soul finding and doing research for themselves then they will become more sprirtual instead of religious.

Scientists will discover the origin of life, and that will be the end of that. Personally, I hope that string theory does it.
