Why is it that some men will give off all the signals of being interested. ie paying lots of attention, lots of deep eye contact and flirtting over a period of time and then run the other way if the woman resoponds in like to his attetion? Men should not flirt this way if they have no real intentions. It isn't fair. I thought this guy was interested and the last time I locked eyes with him (he also in return) it was the most intense interaction so he walked away and then avoided me after. I really thought he liked me... He was spending lots of time talking to me (over a period of time, this all was a build up , not all in one day).

Some men are into flirting, dropping signals, trying to get a woman's attention only to run away because they aren't sure about a lot of things. It could be they already have someone in their lives and they just do this to have fun or see where it might go but if it ever starts to get serious they get frightened and run away. I knew a guy like that at my old work.
Or it could be they are scared about what going any further - sometimes women are very intimidating to men. Not intentionally, but some men lack the self confidence to cross certain boundaries. They get to a point and then stop.
I guess my advice would be to find out for yourself - ask him out to lunch or something and see where it goes. Can't hurt can it...

Be careful who you flirt with, some guys do it for fun, and like to feel like they can get someone until they can, then they get bored. Watch guys without them knowing you are watching them. Try to see how they behave around other women,,chances are they are flirting with everyone

Maybe he was just flirting... you can't really tell the difference until you ask them out... I like flirting and that's all it is... When someone gets too serious I backup and let them cool off..

well if he is not moving this further then you should just move on, and do not give it another thought. Hey, it could have been worse, you could have slept with him and THEN he could have ignored you. so now you know he is a flake and you can just forget him without wasting anymore time.

Because they are very shy and insecure. They want you to notice them. They could want you to take the lead. Be willing to do it because they can't.
