(Bare with me it's long but I need help!!) For the past few weeks, I have had this feeling of pressure on my chest. Not pain, just pressure. I also find that I frequently get short of breath even when sitting and I have to take a big gasp of air. I went to the doctor about this and she just gave me an inhaler and said that my air tubes just might be tight now due to stress. I'm not stressed now as it's winter break for me, but I do have a big problem with anxiety. I'm just worried because this isn't going away and the inhaler isn't working. I'm also concerned because I did have buimia in the past, and I am on several medications for depression, so I'm not sure those would cause a heart problem. The doctor told me that she doesn't think it's my heart though. Any ideas?

Get a second opion as you dont have to settle with one.I have a son your age and life i will tell you is very stressful .I dont know you back ground as to what got you to this point in your life but if you could do one thing is to relax .You will get through this and i am sure you have heard this a million times .Stress can do all kinds of things to you as a person but what you are feeling is stress pressure hard to breath all part of the anxiety.See if you can go and talk it out with someone talking is good if you can find the right person who will take the time to really listen. You will be ok and it will pass.My son had that but that found it was a blockage .See if they can check your lungs as my sons friend found out he had a small hole in one of his lungs which caused him some of the symptoms you are talking about .Check it all out and put your mine at ease .Good luck

This could be a number of things though I had a similar thing happen to me, Just before my 21st birthday I felt a tightness of the chest a lack of breath for a couple days then in the shower one morning washing my hair BANG I felt like I had been stabbed on my left side. Tried to ignore the problem while slumped over getting in my suit I had to go down a flight of stairs that i could usually get down in seconds took me around 15 minutes. When at the bottom I had very laboured breathing and passed out, the ambulance came and within seconds they knew and said spontaneous Pneumothorax (collapsed lung) and they carted me off. My lung tore at the top and released air into my chest cavity putting lots of pressure on my heart and chest.
Now are you tall and slim build? If you are i urge you to go and get a chest x-ray because these symptoms seem very similar to what I had. I tried to ignore the problem and it only got worse. I was in hospital for over a month due to complications but I learnt heaps about it especially the fact that it is very common in men between the age of 18-25 who are tall and skinny.
Well I hope this has helped, hope its nothing serious but its better to be safe than sorry.

Do you have panic attacks? Manic depression? Do you smoke or around it often? Are you over weight now? Do you feel this pressure after you eat? Do you have healthy coping mechanisms such as walking, mediation, therapy etc..? You are awfully young but sound mature enough to consult a MD regarding your condition. Good for you! Keep a journal of the way you feel when you have these episodes, how long they last, what you were doing before they occurred, what you did to relieve the pressure and how long did it last. Then give this journal to your MD to read. Think about some positive coping mechanisms to help you through this and continue to follow the orders that your MD has giving you. Good luck!!

The meds I take foe bipolar disorder made me short of breath so i stopped taking them. I wouldn't usually do that but since the therapists are quitting left and right I don't have another appointment anyway til the 19th. I feel better now that the meds are not being taken. The side effects cause shortness of breath. I didn't quit smoking 13 years ago just to have pressure in my chest and shortness of breath. This will be discussed in the next session.

keep seeing your doctor. Get a second opinion. It could be a combination of things. Better safe than sorry. I get like that from anxiety. I have never heard of a Dr. prescribing an inhaler for it.

Did you take stress test? It checks if your blood vessels are cloged. Sometimes when they are you might have short of breath and presser on your chest.

My step sister had the same problem and it turned out to be her gulbladder. Maybe you should have it checked.
