Hi...
I'm about 171 pounds (12st 3) and I'm 5' 10" but I have a large frame for my age (13). Does frame have anything to do with whether you are overweight or not - therefore, I'm overweight. Or am I a healthy weight but BMI says I am overweight because it doesn't know I'm large-framed? Hope you get the gist and can anyone help? Really confused.
I'm not one of those girls who's obsessed with my weight, I'm just interested and I'd like to know whether I need to loose some because I am a swimmer.
Thanks!
Lorna

Frame size can definitely affect your weight, even though it is only less than an inch between a small and large frame, this can be a difference of 10lb-20lb.

However, at 5ft10 and around 170lb, you are on the higher side of normal. You certainly don't want to gain any weight, but you don't need to lose any either. And if you have a large frame, then you really shouldn't worry at all.

Take care : )

Don't listen to any of the mean stuff on here some people just don't know how to be nice. That's the sad thing about this world. Anyways your 171 at the age of 13 you have a large frame. Well I was 130 at the age of 13 and a swimmer too. Swimming is a great work out and very fun. If you eat right and do your swimming and have a healthy body then your just perfect. All that matters is you being happy with who you are. God loves you and always will. If you're a happy, greatful girl then life is good. Do what you can with it and have fun. Just don't do anything stupid and that you know you'll regret. It's not worth the pain. GOOD LUCK. Oh and hope you enjoy High School when you get there. I know I did. GOOD LUCK

Use this BMI calculator made for KIDS. Since you have a wide frame, add an Inch to your height. According to the website, you need to lose about 8-10 pounds to be at a healthy weight.

BMI dosn't take frame or muscle mass of body builders into acount it is just a guide. However you are still over weight but you are also 13 and probably still growing. Eat healthy and watch your calories and this will work it self out.

forget you even heard of the BMI. it is such an antiquated method of attempting to establish a persons health by using a ridiculous height to weight ratio.

focus on keeping your body fat under control. I would aim for body fat levels that are below average for your age group for your gender.

how much body fat you have is a direct reflection of your metabolic rate, which is a very good indicator of a persons current health.
