Lower mileage tends to mean the car has less wear and tear on it. Thus, it is "newer" than a similar car with high mileage.

The lower the mileage the better. There will be less wear and tear on a low mileage vehicle. Be sure it has a factory warranty on it. That is the very best warranty to obtain. I'd buy a one year old, one owner trade in. This type of car has an auto repair trail you can inspect all serviced done at a dealership. Stay away from rental cars if possible. Consider a Toyota Camry or an American built auto if you can afford it. Seriously look at at any GM car, Chevy Caprice Classic with the small 3500 V6 engine. Pontiac has nice small sporty cars with that same motor. You may want to consider a Ford Fusion with the 24 valve V6 engine. I've had great experience with that engine. Absolutely walk past any Chrysler Corporation Car. Their service records and re-sale value is terrible.

Just as said a low mileage car will only have maybe 10,000-30,000 miles, sometimes really old cars are considered low mileage if they have less than 100,000 miles. It's all relative to how old the car is.

But you don't want too low mileage, say 10,000 miles on a 5 year old car. Either the mileage was tampered with and set back, or the car was only used for short trips, which causes a lot of wear and tear. The ideal mileage would be 12,000 a year, so a 3 year old car with 36,000 on it is a very good car to get.

To put it in perspective, do you want your boyfriend to be your age or do you want you boyfriend to be 40 years older than you?

Cars with lower mileage usually have less wear and tear and general maintenance issues than cars with higher mileage.

The average car gets about 15K a year put on it. If you are looking for a used car, a 2 year old car with say 10K miles is probably a better deal than a 2 year old car with 70K. A 2 year old car should have about 25K to 35K miles on it.

You can read more on buying a used car and valuation on used cars at www.edmunds.com. You can even research the used vehicles you are considering.

At any rate, before you buy, have someone you consider knowledgable about cars go with you to look at your choices. They can help you avoid getting taken or buying a lemon.

Hope this helps.
