I cant get windows xp to install?

im am trying to install windows xp home edition on to my windows 98. every time i try to install it tells me that it cannot write to the disk. my disk is NOT write protected, it has 18GB of free space, and is not set to read only or anything like that. if you know any solutions to why my disk "cannot be written to" please tell me.

You have to delete the partition and re-format the drive before you install.

have you tried to boot from cd when your computer starts up?
