Well it shouldn`t be Alex Mc Leish. If he wasn`t good enough to be the new Rangers manager, then he can`t be a very good manager. If it isn`t Craig Brown then i will go with Tommy Burns if only for the sake of continuity. Of course there is a certain Frenchman looking for a job and the consolation is that BF wouldn`t get in the squad.

Erm. How about King Kenny (Dalglish) with Tommy Burns as his assistant, for a couple of years.. till Tommy learns all the ropes, then the job will be his.
Personally I don't think if offered Graeme Souness WOULD take it..
As a Bhoy, I really DID think that Walter & Ally had turned oor wee National team around.. but for Walter Ibrox, IS a backward step, at this stage in his career.
Ally on the other hand is different. He is there as an assistant, until Walter retires..then you lot will have Coisty for manager. I'm convinced of it.
Hail Hail

We need someone who is a motivator, who has managed at the highest level, who is respected, has a good footballing brain and can interact with the players. Doesn't give us a lot of choice but I would plump for George Burley or George Graham.
One man who should never get the job is Tommy Burns. The man is an impostor of the 1st degree. Flopped at Killie, flopped at Celtic, flopped at Reading, since then has hidden in the background in various coaching roles. He is not good enough nor strong enough to be manager of the national team.
The nonsense with Berti Vogts proves this. Burns slinked about in the background like the sleekit radge that he is, letting Vogts take all the flak. He was brought in to help Berti but didn't stand up when he needed to. A lot of the problems with Vogts supposedly stemed from the language barrier, what the hell was Burns doing at this time? Probably standing there wi his gob shut, try-ing to inconspicuously blend into the background.
Keep him as far away from the Scotland position as possible. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!

Personally, I don't think Smith will be that great a loss! If Burns gets the job, expect call ups for such greast as Paul McStay, cause when he was our manager, he never had a youth policy, never brought a single player though, within a year of him going to make an arsse of himself at Septic, almost his whole team had been put out to pasture and when Killie lifted the Scottish Cup a couple of years later, only one Burns signing, Tom Brown, was involved for a few minutes as a sub! However, his predecessor, Jim Fleeting had more signings involved in that game!
I think that Jim Jeffries would be an excellent choice but would hate to lose him. also, Bobby Williamson working beside someone like George Graham would be fantastic. Just look at everyone fighting over the signatures of Hibs and Killie starlets now, and wonder who discovered these young boys?

Tommy Burns, as soon as Smith goes the better, one lucky game against the French doesn't make a team.
