Today my teacher called my mom and told her I have a 76 GPA. When my dad finds out, he is going to flip out at me. When he yells at me, it's really scary and I start to cry, and then he yells at me to stop crying, and I don't want any of it to happen. Is there anything I can do?

No matter what I do, I know my mom will tell my dad about it, and I know he'll yell at me. And if I tell him I'll get my grades back up, he'll say that it's not good enough. He always asks me, "So what are you going to do about it?" It's a question I've been trying to answer my whole life. Once I prepared a list of about 10 answers and he rejected all of them. Please help me!!!

Well, my dad just called from work. Apparently my teacher called him at work and told him. He said I "had better have a good explanation when I get home".

I'm sorry but from what it seems, ur dad is pretty harsh on the situation. Instead of "what are you going to do now" or yell, how about "anything I can do to help?"

Unfortunately this is not a situation thats avoidable, only thing I can think of is confront him and tell him how u feel when he puts u down like that, and ask for a little support from him.

(I don't recommend this but I guess you can put him on a guilt trip)

Maybe promise him that you will do better and that you will try really hard to get better grades. My dad tends to yell at me too when I am having trouble with homework but in the end I figure it out. Next time you are about to give up on grades try using his anger for your motivation.

Explain to him why you have a 76 GPA, and what you are going to do to change it. When he starts yelling, hear him out and don't cry. Maybe you can look into tutors if you don't think that you can do any better on your own. Good Luck!

Just tell your parents to give you a chance to prove that you could bring up your grades, and try and talk to them at the same time and maybe your mom can give you some support, but really do try and bring up those grades.

If you KNOW your mother is going to tell your dad about your poor grades, then you need to head things off at the pass: tell him yourself but ask for his help. Say, "Dad, I have a problem I need to talk to you about. I am having problems in school and I don't know what to do about them. My grades have dropped and I need some help with this." Then ask for what you need help with - is it a particular subject, or do you need quiet time for homework, or do you need help studying for tests? You DO need to bring your grades up, and maybe if you asked for help first this would help not have a bad scene plus would get you the help you need.

Ask your teacher to give you something for extra credit. Let your mom know that you're already working on getting the grade up and beg, beg, beg for her not to tell your dad. But be sure and do the extra credit assignment if she gives you one.

Talk to your mom before she gets to your dad. Try and make a deal with her that if you do bring your grades up she will not mention it to him. Tell her you are afraid when he gets angry. Don't make excuses, that will only make him more angry. Just apologize and be submissive, don't give him a reason to be angry. And........... do better in school.

Get to work on your grades pronto. You are not capable of understanding how important education is but it is very important to you if you want to live in the style you are accustomed to.
