My Dad just came back form a 2 week stay over the Christmas holiday in Barcelona. He said it was a beautiful place and that he enjoyed the people there as well.

i talk to a girl from Barcelona all the time, i met her online. She speaks English, Spanish, German, and Croation.....she says thats pretty common there

Actually, to get in better with the locals, it would be better to speak Catalan in Barcelona.

It depends. If you were born and raised there, then people would automatically assume you speak Spanish. However, if your from another country, then no, people there would not really be expecting you to speak their native language.
