I don't get it... I rented it the other night and it seemed like a bunch of wanka wanka in a language not many understand and just about half the movie was him getting tortured? What made that so appealing?

For those of us who are religious and believe that Jesus was the son of God and died for our our sins. We read in the bible about the "Passion" the sufferings that he went through. Reading is one thing but seeing it in all it's gory detail makes his sacrifice so much more real and understandable.

for many people it was an emotionally powerful portrayal of Jesus suffering... it had allot of artistic licence I saw it 3 times and yes I liked is

There is a better movie I saw 7 times you probably never heard of but would probably like. I recommend one that is lesser known that came out the same time, The Gospel ofJohn, by The Visual Bible.. this is PG13 and word for word the gospel of John and extremely artistically done... as we lead into Easter... a great choice for viewing and sometimes you can pick up a copy for cheap at Walmart or eBay

People felt that if they didn't go they would be denying the existisnce of God's only son. I guess most people just felt that it was a part of their history that they needed to see. The media said it was great, so everyone went. They just like movie made by Mel Gibson. They like contraversial things. WWe all have our different reasons.
I went everyday, and made a big scene, because I wanted as many people as possiable to see me...I wanted them to all know that I am a good Christain girl. ;) (Ok! I'm kidding...Mostly...) ;)

the appeal was a version of the events leading up the crucifixtion that stayed close to the bible as possible

example ~ it mentions he was scourged

now the average person doesnt know what that is....you see this movie you know what it is ~ as it is shown in all its horror

heres a comparison ~ any old war movie ~ one man storms beach kills half the third reich single handed etc etc

saving private ryan ~ showed what actually happened at normandy on d-day

its all about realism

The Passion of Christ embrace a false christ and an unbiblical Mary.

Didn't you know that Jim Caviezel was struck by lightning during a recreation of the Sermon on the Mount. (CNN) The assistant director Jan Michelini was struck twice.

An actor playing a Roman torturer cut a 14-inch gash in Caviezel's back during scenes of Christ's scourging.

He dislocated his shoulder carrying the cross, caught pneumonia and a lung infection, endured cuts, scrapes and backaches from the chains he bore.

The Passion of Christ draws much of it's inspiration by the demonic visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich. You need to do some works to find who is Anne Catherine Emmerich and her writtings.

Short documents:She claimed to see her guardian angel on a nearly constant basis. She levitated. When she entered a cloister, she was frequently seen inexplicably above the ground.

She was said to bilocate, In vision or bilocation she saw the execution of King Louis XVI and visited Marie Antoinette,
queen of France in prison.

As a child, she was taken to see the suffering souls in purgatory and frequent were Anne's visions that she thought everyone had them.

She saw more of history than anyone else known and that Jesus Himself conducted her through many visions.

She never entered the church without her angel-guardian who taught her by his own example the homage due to the Eucharistic God.

Our Lord Himself had made known to her in vision the grandeur and magnificence of His mysteries. Emmerich’s Jesus is the Eucharistic Jesus.

This Eucharistic Jesus is the Roman Catholic Jesus who is sacrificed each mass, over and over again.

Remember, according to Emmerich she never entered the church without her angel-guardian who taught her by his own example the homage due to the Eucharistic God.

I don't know, I found it quite moving, and I'm an atheist. Its gory but I don't think the suffering was the whole point of the film but then Christians believe he suffered for our sins so that in itself is quite poignant.

I thought Judas got a raw deal.

It was the story of Jesus and His life. It was a very Biblical story. It was the true life of our Saviour. They did speak Hebrew back then and so that is why they spoke the language they did.

It's good that you're asking questions. You clearly have missed the point. Does that happen to you often? You might want to look further into that.

Because they can cry, moan, and scream to the heavens saying "LOOK what he went through for us..!!!"

In reality, anyone going through a crucifixion went through that and has not had a movie made for them, or a religion for that matter.
