I'm from Holland. In Holland are almost no 'real Christians' left. According to the statistics there are still many, but simply because the Dutch Christian Church names even me (atheist) a Christian, because my grandparents were believers. I'm a statistic in their archives.

A Dutch comedian, Wim de Bie, inttoduced a couple of years ago the word "ietsisme" into the Dutch language, which can be translated as "somethingism". Lots of people don't believe in a Deity, but they do believe there is 'something'. Nobody has a clue what that 'something' is.

I never met a Pagan in Holland, but I see a lot of them on this forum. Is it safe to say that a Pagan is somehow a 'somethingist"? A person that believes there is something to make this all happen, but can't really put it into words?

I mean no offense, i'm really just curious.

I too believe that there is "something" out there, but I can't say what... I believe that makes my "religious" staus Agnostic.

I think I prefer the term Somethingist though!

The "somethinism" that you describe sounds like Agnosticism to me, though I could mistaken. However, It is not Paganism. (or more appropriately, Neo-Paganism) Paganism is really a collection of several different faiths, most of which venerate deities that were worshiped before the time of Christ. Pagan is one of those loose terms that is actually hard to describe.

That is actually the beauty for many people with 'Paganry' because there is no one to tell them they are doing it wrong...

So in that term, yes............... Pagan is the closest

I'd still say Agnosticism is closer though.

Pagans believe in pantheons (cultural gods/goddesses) according to what makes sense to them and they're usually quite in tune with the natural world as well... so yep, they're "somethingists". LOL

Somethingism? lol

Yes, belief in a non-specific higher power could be pagan.
It could also be agnostic, which is the belief that no one can know whether or not God exists or know anything about Him.

Somethingism.

It would be clever but in fact its stupid. The words pantheist and agnostic cover those sorts of beliefs.

Many of us pagans are polytheists which means we believe in many different gods and goddesses.
