You need to get a little green machine or some sort of carpet cleaner and use that on the spot. Make sure that you are getting a lot of water on it and then sucking it back out. Let it dry. Then put a healthy amount of a Shake-n-Vac type product on it (the kind for pets work well). Let that sit over night and then vacuum it up. Then, just for good measure, give the area a good spraying with Febreeze!

My son barfed all over the floor next to my bed and I could smell it for days until I did what I just suggested to you. Having the Little Green Machine has been great in many other situations too, a great investment!

PS- Sorry to disagree with another answer, but coffee grounds will give you a horrific stain on your rug in addition to the smell.

What you may do is get some baking soda and brush it into the carpet many times, after taking some white vinegar, a million/3 diluted with 3/4 water, and scrub the spot with it. yet, let the water/vinegar brushing dry first, then later, do the baking soda brushing. that would favor to thoroughly do the trick! yet be particular you in consumer-friendly words use a small volume of the white vinegar w/water! desire you do this and be conscious!

try some DETOL-you can buy it at pharmacies. It needs to be diluted probably 1/4 detol- 3/4's water. Spray the area and let it sit for a bit, then get a brush and srub it. I used this when my dog get sick and it worked. Good luck!!

Coffee grounds - unused, of course - work great, it's what the flight attendants use on airplanes when someone gets sick. Sprinkle them om the carpet and leave them overnight if you can - that should help.

Febreeze works wonders for me. You could also try the baby stain remover for clothing, it is safe for carpet too.
