your local college will do hairdressing for beginners, it'll take 12 - 18 months for an nvq 1+2 and then a further 6-12 months for level 3(advanced). depending on the age of your friend they probably wont have to pay either. they could either do full time at college (3 days a week) or 1 day in college and then 4 on placement in a salon. i prefer the latter as you get more hands on experience, tips,differnet techniques etc.
