The question might be better posed "How far can a dog run 'into' the forest?"
The answer would be "halfway," because then the dog would be running out. (but a dog can run the whole way 'through' a forest)

That would depend on the dog, the forest, whether the dog was young or old, whether the forest was thin, thick, or worse--like on fire or something. If you wanted to know how far he could run INTO the forest, the most is half-way. If he kept running, he'd be going OUT of the forest.
