my god yes. They has been much research medical and psychological, to examine the effects of sleep deprivation. If nothing else it can certainly lead to severe mental health problems including paranoia and hallucinations. However, these studies have been on deliberate sleep deprivation. Insomnia is not the same, and whilst you will feel exhasted and lathargic whilst you have the condition there is no permanent medical or psychological damage. But the underlying casue of the problem may derive from a medical or psychological condition which will require medical help. Good luck.

Yes. There is a virus known as African Sleeping Sickness. The virus attacks the central nervous system so that the host cannot sleep. You die.

If you are artificially stimulating yourself with crank, then you won't die of lack of sleep, but you will die of heart problems early in life.

well it would be very hard to stay awake forever but yes you could probably die from it. Sleep is how your body re-charges. If your immune system doesnt have the strength to keep up then you can get very sick. If you dont sleep to let your body heal then you will get worse and eventually die

It surely can. Scientists have found that without sleep your brain looses essential energy and will not develop or function correct.
Don't try it-it was tested in the early 90s. It's deadly!

Even if you sleep one day you are going to die

It is highly unlikely that the lack of sleep would lead directly to your death. But just like intoxication, extreme fatigue can impair your judgment and coordination. Additionally, to stay awake continually you would probably have to use drugs, caffeine and amphetamines. Amphetamines in particular could cause heart attack and stroke.

If you COULD stay awake long enough you would die of exhaustion, actually forcing yourself to stay awake for that length of time would be almost impossible, you would probly pass out after only a few days.
