My cat is crazy. Whenever I use Bengay on sore muscles, he's all over me sniffing and licks my hands even after I washed them. It's like cat nip to him. Are there any veterinarians out there that can answer this question? One time the tube of Bengay dropped on the rug and some came out. That crazy cat actually wallowed in it. Is it the menthol? I really want to know. Thank you

I should add that when my kids were home, we had no less than4 cats at once, we also lived in a huge house. All other cats were outdoors cats. this crazy cat is strictly indoors because of the breed. I don't want anything to happen to him becasue I live on a busy street now. I wonder, could it be he's confined indoors as opposed to the others who were always out and came in when they wanted. first time I ever had a cat do this. I thought he was brain damaged until I viewed your answeres.

I think it must be something about the menthol. I had a cat that used to just go crazy over absorbine jr. He acted worse than we he had cat nip. He acted like he was definitely getting high off the stuff.

But, I had another cat sitting right there and he acted like it didn't even faze him in the least. I guess it just affects certain ones.

I wish I knew myself; my cat does the same thing; he also likes to lick Vicks vaporub off of me. So it might be the menthol, because Vicks has menthol in it as well.

Cats love smelly odors as long as it is not from a litterbox. The mint smell is similar to the smell of the mint plant that they love.
