My 15 yr old siamese has been coughing up mucus and swallowing it to the point he throws it up. He's not running a fever, nor are his lungs blocked, in fact they sound perfectly clear.
He coughs primarily after sleeping all night and after long naps (he's even lost his voice a few times).
Should I take him in? Please, I'm scared!

EDIT: I spoke with the vet over the phone and it turns out he's got a hairball (as pointed out by the dry heaving in the morning, which I thought was coughing). Good grief. I will be taking him in as soon as I can afford it. Many thanks for you time everyone.

Definitely take him in. My cat has asthma and I just took him into the vet because it could be an infection or just his asthma acting up. Cats respiratory infections wont just go away. My cat's twin sister (different owner) ended up dying because the owner didn't take her to the vet in time and she ended up with pneumonia and dying from it. So do it VERY soon.

If the cat is congested you are able to try steaming him contained in the bathroom to help open up the nasal passageways - sit down contained in the bathroom with the cat and run the bathe on warm till the room fills up with steam. it truly is a few thing that needs to be repeated two times an afternoon or more effective reckoning on the cats condition. you are able to also try utilising a warmth mist vaporizer right into a crate it really is coated to carry the moist air instead of the bathroom. an option determination is to get some stinging nettles out of your community well being food keep and a small plunger from the drugstore - use a million/4 the pill dissolved is a few water and dose two times an afternoon - the stinging nettles helps relieve congestion.

Absolutely you should take him to the vet. It sounds like he may have allergies, but it could be a cold. Even more, I know that here in Indiana, feline Panleukopenia (distemper) is running rampant, and that could be fatal. Please don't wait any longer to take your cat into the vet. It may not be serious, but you need to have him treated anyway.
