Well, don't you think it's a bummer that we can't still put convicted criminals in a wicker cage and set them on fire? This God just isn't any fun. All that no more blood sacrifices or even killing people. First it was replace it with animals and then no more killing people at all. No fun at all. It was better when we could take the hardened criminal and send them direct to hell.

Because the god of the bible originated as a bloodthirsty tribal god in the Middle East. It was very common back in the day to do ritualized animal and human sacrifices. He's a product of the culture that gave rise to him.

Blood sacrifices were in the old testament. Those that were obedient to God (believers) performed blood sacrifices because it symbolized Christ shedding His blood on the cross for mans' sins and God sacrificing His only begotten son. They were only allowed to sacrifice animals that symbolized 'purity' which were lambs because Christ was the 'lamb' that gave Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. Christ's death on the cross fulfilled and did away with sacrifices.

When Adam and Eve committed the first sin, they instantly realized that they were naked and became embarassed. In order for God to help them he killed an animal and coverd them with the hide. This is why the forgiveness of sins is best on the shedding of innocent blood. It is all part of God's plan to send his only son to shed his blood on the cross for the sins of the world.

It's just another example of (so-called) 'Pagan' ideals being taken-over by a new 'conquering' "Religion", just like the Yule Log, Tree worship, mistletoe, holly wreaths etc.

The newer "Religion" adopted the practices of the former "Religion" in order to make it 'easier' to convert others.

Whether-or-not those practices contradict the 'newer-religions' laws,made/makes no difference... it was (and is) seen as more-important to gain converts than to actually follow the true precepts of the religion.

Put simply, Greed, Lust for power, and control over others was/are the driving forces behind the situation. (as usual)

Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins

Heb. 9:22 (NIV) In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
