I can't say much for your first question, but your second question is an excellent one.
The answer lies in human nature. Have you ever hear someone on the phone, heard ABOUT someone, etc. and formed a certain conception of them in your head, then when they came you found out they were completely different than you imagined? This is precisely what the Jews did.
They knew that the Messiah would be Jehovah embodied in a man, so they expected him to be well born and bread, strong, good looking, etc. but this was simply not what the Bible said about him. God humbled himself to be born in a manger, (you know the rest of the story) which was beyond their imagination.
Not only that, but God says many times in the Old Testament that the Jews are a "stiff necked" people.

No, Jesus' name is not Brian.
The Jews did not recognize Jesus for who he really is. That, in no way, make Him not the Messiah.

Why are there so many crack pot Jesus haters on here? If you're going to spread your athiests beliefs, at least be intelligent about it! This is just not nice in general!
By the way, Jesus loves you anyway! He died on the cross for you and all you have to do is ask forgiveness of your sins. You must care somewhat if you even feel the need to spread your message of hate on here.
