This is something you should ask before you take them to get a hole made in their skin because there are a couple of things you should look for so that both ears can be done.
* Are the needles disposable? Go elsewhere; don't risk germs
* Are they spraying with something that will numb the area? Go somewhere else then.
* Is the place clean?
* Are they licensed for piercings by the Health Department
PS: the gun takes an instant and is much less likely to produce a jerking that creates an uneven hole.

They use a piecing gun, it will pierce the ear in like a second. Piercing needles are hollow so they can stick the jewelry in to the needle and just pull it through.
Just be careful because even though when they use a piercing gun its quick when they do the second ear the child might move.

Why wouldn't you let them use a piercing gun. It's so quick, when my daughter got her ears pierced (6 months old) she cried for a second and then 5 min later she was dancing in the car.

The use of the gun is less painful as well as more hygenic. Why you would want to make your children suffer the pain of needles is beyond me. All I can think is that you've got pretty sadistic parenting skills, if that is what you could call them. I suggest that you wait until they are old enough to have them done themselves if you don't want them to have it done the less painless and easiest way for them. If you enjoy suffering make yourself suffer don't impose it on your children.

yeah, they just stick it in. of course it's disinfected and all. at least they should. this is how i got my ears pierced. i was only one month old, i believe. everybody around here had their ear pierced this way. i don't know if it's very painful. however, when i was 16 i had another piercing, this time with a gun.pain wasn't very bad but i hated that sound it made, kinda like a stapler.

yes...why don't you believe in gun piercing? No offense but that is a bit odd...it would be much less cruel for your "young" daughters to have it done with the gun.
