I'm about to confess something I haven't told ANYONE I know in real life.

I have this terrible addiction to pornography and every time I try to quit, I get dragged back into it. (You gotta give me credit for at least TRYING to quit.) The REAL problem is, I need Internet access on a computer in order to communicate with business clients and order resources and parts for my job. It's also my main source of social interaction when I can't get outta the house.

I've tried at least three unsuccessful attempts at trying to stop this addiction; can anyone give me advice on how to quit?

Please don't waste your time OR mine with those "You're a pervert" answers either; I'm trying SO hard to quit.

First I think you're really brave for posting this. Anonymous or not, one of the hardest things in life is facing up to something that we'd rather not admit. That said, it is in real life where you will find the help you need. This is no different than addictions to alcohol, food, or drugs in that -- unless you live alone on a mountain (without an internet connection) -- you will have to live your life exposed to the temptation to give in. There are ways to help yourself though. What you need is a qualified, GOAL DRIVEN ( this is a very important distinction -- good therapy has goals, and by extention, good therapy doesn't go on forever) professional to help you with the behavior modification that will allow you to gain control of your obsessive/compulsive behaviors related to porn. Find a therapist who specializes in such things -- ask when you call -- don't be afraid. My only caution is to beware of any therapist who drifts into moralizing; that approach won't offer you the sustainable help you need. Best of luck.

Ok here we go. Yes you have an addiction to something that you know that you want to stop. Like other addiction, this is a life commitment. I am sincere when I say seek help from a license professional. If money is an issue call a help line and ask for free references for sexual addictions. This is one road you are not on alone. Many, many others are on this road, the important thing is that you are seeking help. Don't stop here, take you first step and see a professional. Like I said this will take time and help from others. In the long run you will feel much better about yourself and even be able to help others who have the same addictions. I don't know where you live and don't think you want to advertise that. So start looking in the yellow pages or call your local help line. They should be equipped with referral books full of numbers to help you out. One step at a time. Good luck my friend.

Instead of getting on the computer for social interaction when you can't get out of the house, go to a therapist and interact there and get some help at the same time. Any addiction needs professional help to quit if you can't do it on your own. You have tried and failed now go get help.

I understand thoroughly what you're asking. that's achievable to end quitting, in spite of the shown fact that it quite is plenty greater solid that quitting going to the wellbeing middle. you want a resource of motivation and suggestion. Make some objectives. Than reward your self. sturdy good fortune =)

Make it impossible for you to have access to any source of it.

Get rid of the computer, set access controlls, know that you may get fired if caught on the job.

Know that you have a choice of being a slave to your desires, or you can be the master of your self. It all boils down to what you choose.

whats wrong with porno i mean its not that babd but you want to quit so the best idea is to start something new the best way to quit one drug is with another I'm not saying to start smoke or nothing but find something fun for you be it internet games reading and so forth and try not to be so harsh on your self that never seems to help to much if you like pool then yahoo pool do anything to help i'm sure if your girl was right there that would easily replace it just find something to take its place like when people quit smoking they normally pick up something else like gum chewing

I guess you mean you are just watching XXX movies, right?

Porn is addictive to everyone at certain degree, unless someone who doesn't have the need. If you only keep it to yourself and not interfering an innocent 3rd party, you are fine. That means you are not doing anything illegal.

I understand. You have to relax. Get out more often, whenever the urge comes up. If at work or anywere, get off the computer. Walk=read=call friends/girlfriends. Think about really how bad do you want to quit. Really. Do what it takes if you really want to.

You are a man, almost every man looks at pornography, but it's a problem when you start making it part of your life.
If you are married, why dont you tell your wife that you have needs, and I'm sure she'll solve your problem.
If you are not,why dont you seek prof.help? there's nothing wrong with that.
Control it before it controls your life.
Good luck.
