Oil is a long chain of carbon atoms surrounded by hydrogen atoms. The carbon atoms share a double bond. Gasoline has eight carbon atoms. Oil has a much longer chain. The longer the chain, the thicker the oil.

But they add a lot of chemicals to motor oil. They add viscosity improvers, pour point depressants, etc.

Great book, and he comes up with a brilliant theory about oil, what it really is, and is not, and also theorizes that we're not anywhere near running out of the stuff, as well as proving that there is TONS of life under the earth feeding on the stuff.
