More healthy than we can imagine...
Nutritionally - we are MUCH more healthy than we have been told. A consequence of our nutritional health is that more and more folks are storing the value of the food they are eating and gaining tremendous weight. As food is meant to be used to support activity, if one does not use the energy they are consuming, they become "fatteries" (fatty batteries) under the presumption that they may at some point in the future - use the stored energy.
SO nutritionally - we're doing well - but many people over consume the resource.
One issue that does exist is that the portions of foods from external locations (outside of a home kitchen) are getting larger. In an effort to be more competitive, franchise operators are increasing portions, costs, and many other of the unhealthy aspects of their food creation.
We do suffer a bit of legacy from the time when 80% of our population was involved in some sort of physical labor as their primary source of income. This meant that MUCH more food efficiency was necessary in order to support an active work force. As we've moved to more sedintary activities like typing and process management as our day-to-day the need for so much food has diminished.
As a nation - depite our health - we do need to consume less and exersize more... it's pretty straightforward.
But "health" wise - we're living longer, stronger, and more healthily than ever before... that could change however unless we adjust a few details of our daily lives...
Make sense?

We're not a healthy nation. If you look at the nutritional content in fast foods its no wonder there's an obesity problem. Yet we continue to eat at these places every day.

Are "We" the United States? If so...I believe that for many years now the food industry has been holding the general populace hostage by
a) making fast & junk food cheaper than fresh & organic
b) by forcing our food supply toward more and more genetically manipulated crops, thereby depleting our food of its nutrients and;
c) providing great financial support for any organization willing to promote its products (many public schools allow vending machines).
Those comments aside, I believe that our health is deteriorating at a rate which we cannot afford. Moderation (material, emotional, career, physical) is a word that has practically left our vocabulary. We are well informed, thanks to the internet and a media that is slowly turning its attention to our great many health problems and how to solve them. I hope that in the future every citizen will have the right to decent health, regardless of income, race or gender.

I dont think that we are a very healthy nation, because we have too much obesity. We eat too much junk food and live out of resturants, not all these are bad. We dont get enough excerise, we watch too much tv. So if we are to get healthy then we need to change out way of life.
