If you continue to exercise, you shouldn't lose any lean muscle. However, if you starve yourself to lose weight, muscle is the first thing to go, and the last thing you lose (when there's no muscle left for your body to burn) is fat.

the food sucks on Nutrisystem.... :-P trust me! As for losing muscles. Yes you can, if you just eat a healthy low fat diet you will shed both. But if you work out you'll keep tone and if you lift weights or run you'll keep and build muscles. Their is more of a science to getting the 'perfect' body then just eating right.

You can have some muscle wasting with dieting. You should eat a balanced diet and try some weight lifting. Lifting weights will keep your muscles strong and less likely to waste from dieting.

Um...when planning weight loss it should always go along with strengthening your muscle. Weights actually help you lose weight faster, contrary to popular belief.

You lose FAT when you lose weight regardless if use Nutrisystem or some other plan.

Losing muscle is referred to as wasting, and I don't think you are in danger of that. In medical circles, wasting refers to the process by which a debilitating disease causes muscle and fat tissue to "waste" away. Wasting is sometimes referred to as "acute malnutrition" because it is believed that episodes of wasting have a short duration, in contrast to stunting, which is regarded as chronic malnutrition.

If you lift weights along with your diet you will be fine because you are telling your body to keep the muscles around

No, I haven't seen any muscle loss yet with my diet. I think you actually have it backwards. You actually gain more muscle if you exercise properly at the same time. Then, eventually after you gain enough muscle it starts burning away the fat and tightening your skin.
