If you are a Catholic, it is transformed into the actual Body of Christ during the Mass, so you just let it melt, no chewing! Other Christian faiths regard the wafer as a symbol of the body of Christ, so I guess a chew or two is okay.

I don't really chew it, they basically just kinda melt right onto your tongue.
He puts it into my hands.

I was taught to let it dissolve, but sometimes (when you don't have a lot of saliva) you do have to give it a little help.
