yes. But every case is individual. Maybe the child would be better looked after being away from his/her parents, who obviously don't love her/him like they should.

No. I went to boarding school and I would say this is only child abuse if the child specifically and repeatedly asks to come home and is not allowed.

Unfortunately there are some people who do this and it's awful.

Do bear in mind though that in the UK you can be prosecuted if your children don't go to school so a good replacement must be found before they leave. If the choice is between a sink school and boarding school I can understand parents keeping them at boarding school.

Parents have been sending their kids away to school for ages, and considering boarding schools are some of the best, I really don't feel that it is most people's place to judge the rightness of this, whether they are neglecting them, or if they love them or not. While it may be true that some parents who don't care about their children send them to boarding school, plenty of equally uncaring parents keep their children close at hand, and, in fact, do not allow them to ever venture outside the parental sphere of influence. If a loving home is waiting for them during breaks, then the child should not feel abandoned being away from home for part of the year.

As long as the parent isnt forcing the child to go and the child wants to go this is fine. Children learn so much at boarding schools and often find their independance there.

Of course not! There is nothing wrong with sending children to boarding school, except if they really dont want to go. Its unfair to force them to go, especially if they are quite young. Its definitley not abuse, but just make sure the child in question is alright with going, if not, you may be able to win them over, or you should accept there descision.

No - I always wanted to go after reading Mallory Towers - living with your friends sounded great! It depends on the child and their personality whether they would settle but a lot of people I know went to boarding school from age 11 and it didnt do them any harm.

No, definitely not.

Is it neglect, or abandonment? It may feel like it to the child, if he or she does not want to go to the boarding school, but if the parents are distant and uncaring, sending the child to boarding school may be in his or her best interest.

of course not u ****! boarding school isn't 4 every1, but some parents prefere it as they are extreamly busy n feel they cnt give their child the attention they need, or they would simply get a better education @ boarding school as its a normal school AND a finishing school all rolled into one. when i was at school i always thought i'd hate going to a boarding school until some of us exchanged with a boarding school. it was the best week i'd ever had! i loved ever minute of it. it was like on bloody long sleep over and u weren't learnin boring stuff like maths all the time, u were learning how 2 live! it were kewl

I don't agree with boarding schools, but I wouldn't say that it is child abuse.

no some kids would like to go to a boarding school. and some parents send their kids there because they want them to get a better education. it also might be better for the kid in some situations, if they are abused at home it would be good for them to go to school away...

No way, that is your child's ticket to ride! I went to boarding school and that is were I learned to drink, smoke, hook up with boys and all sorts of other things all without parental supervision. It was like college for teens and pre-teens, we all loved it, even though it was like a little prison, but we got away with so much. God bless boarding school!!
