The key to this question is volume. Yes, a pound is a pound is a pound. But you need to add volume to the equation. We frequently say something that weighs 1 lb / cu in is heavier than something that ways 1 lb / cu ft. Relating this to muscle and fat, it would take a greater volume of fat to equal 1 lb than the volume muscle it would take to equal 1 lb

Muscle has more mass per area then fat does. Think of it this way, A bag full of bowling balls is going to weigh more than the same size bag filled with feathers.

It's more dense. Fat contains a lot of oils. Since oils are less dense than water (proven in every kitchen sink) contained in muscle it takes up more volume per gram. Thus, muscle is heavier per unit of volume.

I don't get it though. Why wouldn't one pound of fat be the same as one pound of muscle? It's one pound right? That's like saying which would hit the ground first, a pound of gold or a pound of feathers? They're both a pound!! I'm so confused. I'm going to have to post my own question. I need answers too.

cause the fat is lazy and hangs on the muscle. thereby making the muscle weigh more.

note: muscles are stupid and more dense so they let the fat do this.....lol
