A stool softener is what it says it is. It only softens stool. There are many things that give you diarrhea. Parasites, too much waste in the system and the body starts to kick out the extra trash. Water washes out trash. It also help the stool softener.

Im about to ask my doctor the same question over the phone in a few..I will let you know what she tells me. Im pregnant and was having to take it because I have been taking iron pills. Im thinking either the iron is causing it or the stool softner.

Well, the point of taking a stool softener is to soften the stool. If your stools get too soft though you might want to take only half a dose next time.

Yes, it can if you take too much of it. Also, if you are constipated, you will probably have diarhea after you get the blockage out. Constipation and diahrea are related...not opposites.

No, it simply does what as its name indicates- it softens your stools so they're easier to pass.
