apparently French records are a pain to get ahold of unless you know specifically what you're looking for.

are you looking for mere stats - ie how many people were born, married or got married in a particular year?

or looking for the records of specific individuals?

since i have no idea what you're goal is, i can only recommend that you check out

good luck.

Hey Fle,

There are several places. France, like any other country keeps their records in accumulated site. Go to the site below, and follow the process.

National Archives of France (one of many at the 1st web site):
Send Requests To
Directeur des Archives de France
Archives Nationales
Section Outre-mer
27 Rue Oudinot
Paris 75007
France

PS: Added the last site, Indiana has a section on France Vital Records.

What time period are you wanting to get a record for? I mean for someone alive now, or earlier for doing genealogy research?

You can try the links for France at Cyndis list genealogy links:

http://www.cyndislist.com/france.htm/

You can also post your question on Ancestry.com's French genealogy board, someone who has done research in France or even someone there might have some more ideas for you:

http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.weurope.france/mb.ashx

Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness has a listing of volunteers in France who will do various lookups (they are free but may ask for a small amount to cover copying and postage fees):

http://www.raogk.org/countrie1.htm#france

For older records, the Mormon Church has many records on microfilm. You go to a local family history center, pay a small fee (maybe $3.50 or so), then view it when it comes in and you can print for a small fee. Here is what the microfilm they have on France:

If you find records but need them translated, this site has free translations of genealogy texts:

Good luck, I hope this helps!
