I have just started using layers but specificaly was trying to blend using copies of the original and blending? them. not sure where to access blend mode.
does anyone know what I am talking about?

On the top of the Layers Palette you will see the word 'normal' and beside that an arrow. Click the arrow and it will open all the various blend modes. (This is in Photoshop, to which, I assume, you refer. I don't understand the 1st answer's reference to layers and blending in a wet darkroom, as these are digital techniques)

You may be referring to overlapping two images in Photoshop and then changing the opacity level of the top image. This would allow you to view both images at the same time. The opacity level would be located at the top right side of the layer window.

Are you doing this digitally (on a computer) or physically (in a dark room)? The techniques vary. Please advise??
