When I scratch it welts up. Is this an insect?

Sounds like a spider bite. Try applying some calamine's lotion for the itch and taking a histamine blocker for the swelling. Consult your doc if this get's worst, it starts oozing or you spike a fever.

Sounds like a spider bite to me. Most arent harmful but do leave an irritating bite mark. There are a few that can be very dangerous but you would know by now if u were ballooning up or having a hard time breathing.

Also, it could be bed bugs if its happening at night when your sleeping. If thats the case then wash your bed linens.

Could be chiggers! They are so small that you cant see them and they get under your skin. If you keep getting them, thats probably what it is. Put nail poil over them (if thats what it is) and they'll go away :)
