Yes, I agree. Some people type like they are in a chat room full of juveniles.
We also cannot forget the morons that think people are mindreaders. The ones who post a two word question with no details at all, not to mention the people that think there's one specific answer to their problem.
For example:
"I have a computer that won't work, what's wrong?"
If I had a pair of hands to choke every person like that I don't think I would be able to move because the weight would be unbearable.

When I was in college, I worked in the sporting goods department at Wal-Mart. In order to buy a gun, a customer had to fill out some forms that asked for basic info like address and county of residence. I cannot tell you how many people could not spell Tennessee or the county they lived in, despite the fact that they had lived there for their entire life. That said, it does not surprise me that people cannot spell. What does surprise me is that they do not use the spell checker. I guess the problem with that is that you have to at least get close in order for the checker to help you. If you can't get spelling correct with a checker, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization are way to much to ask for. I visit the Spanish version sometimes and the same thing happens there. Your question has been asked there various times as well.

I truly appreciate your question since I was the First Runner-Up in the Spelling Bee contest at my school, many decades ago. A friend of mine and I were discussing this very issue only a week or so ago, and he never went to college, and never seemed all that interested in academia, etc., but he said the very same thing you have, and that brought home the issue more clearly to me since a man of his academic achievement would notice such atrocious grammar and spelling. I know I make some mistakes every now and then, and mostly due to typos (or so I like to think). I don't use "Spell-Check" or such simply for the same reason that I don't let calculators do my arithmetic for me. I have a brain and I like to use it, even if it does faulter every now and then. I can feel assured that my brain doesn't faulter as much as our "wonderful" PC's do. God Bless you. And keep up the good work!

Well, this is a "world wide open talking thing". I admit many Americans are poor in their writing, but many people do not have English as their first language. Than, there is the fact that I have way more important things to be fed up about. I will not age my heart on things like that. I am not sure you would be a good teacher with this temper.

I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if they don't know how to spell or are just too lazy to use the 'Check Spelling' that is provided. I'm also thinking these same people are the ones who text message a lot.....
I feel Yahoo should not post their questions if the words are not spelled correctly.
I've also noticed that nearly everyone uses ' and " incorrectly.
' is to highlight a term and " is when you are relating something that someone said. I see this all of the time in publications, TV and newspapers. Why aren't the teachers teaching the meaning and/or usage of these...................

I'm equally fed up with this question being asked ad infinitum. Yes. Some people can't spell. Everyone can see that. Can we not drop it now?
You wouldn't have wanted to be an English teacher. Trust me on that. I am one.

Not to mention that spell check is available here!
Of course you must spell the word well enough for the spell checker to recognize, and correct the word.

I hate to admit it but it is one of my pet peeves
Funny story -- I lived in Austria for 18 months and my now husband was writing to me. I was very impressed with what a good speller he was. In fact, if he had not been a good speller, I would not have continued to write to him (yes, I was shallow then)It was not until after I married him that I found out that he was really a terrible speller with a good spell-check. Amazingly, he has turned out to be a great husband in spite of his disability. 80)

I love trying to work out what people are trying to ask. Don't forget that many do not have English as their first language.
