It's about how anyone can come to the U.S. with nothing and make a decent living. It's about getting more than what your parents had and living the life you want. It actually started with the whole American Revolution thing, about being able to basically do what you want without somebody telling you how to do it.. and it became like this mythical thing with westward expansion in the 1850s...

Whether people can just come here and make it big is a completely different story though... people can come and try, but I would say that 99.9% won't be very effective, b/c let's face it... the U.S. is kinda effed up like that...

I'm american and still haven't been able to figure it out. I find that if you were born here, it's harder for you to get anything. (especially after 9/11). I have also been witness to foreigners who have been given money from our govt, education, a house, and work tax free for the first year they are employeed in america. So, when you figure out what the American dream is, please let me know. Perhaps I will have to take citizenship outside of this country and come back in to get the answer. Thank you and GOD bless.

In its purest form, the American Dream is one of freedom, equality, and living to the fulfillment of potential.

Today, many people have perverted it to the capitalist dream of owning a house and two cars, and having a family--as though that's all the potential people carry inside them.

The american dream is to own your very own house. Owning property in the States gives profits as would in any other country. Well people come to the states from all around the world, because in their own countries it would be impossible to own there, here its easier: better jobs, more money, bigger opportunites. Thats what the american dream is.

The American dream is to be married (to an attractive wealthy person) have 2 1/2 kids ( whatever that means) live in suburbs....drive a nice car....take vacations........so just be HAPPY....if all this is what it takes to make you happy!?
