Is online dating now socially acceptable. It was a bit of a grey area years ago, but imo thats long gone and its now a perfectly normal place to meet people? Opinions?

For some reason, this question bothers me. What difference does it make what other people think about your personal decisions?

If it is something you would like to explore, then go for it.. if it is not morally wrong, etc. "Socially acceptable???" When was it not accepted? by whom? "normal place to meet people?" hmmmmmmmmmm

What is normal, and who wants to be normal anyway?

btw.. I have been dating the love of my life. We met on Yahoo personals.

Good luck to you

I would have to say that online dating is the norm these days :-) I have done it myself and have meet some very interesting men. Be careful there are some really weird ones out there. I start with a pen name and once I am sure its a person I can trust then I begin the steps of a first meeting. The first meeting must be in a public place with lots of people. That way if something doesn't work out well there are escape routes :-)

The online environment drasticallly expands your chances of meeting a person of the same match. I really don't see anything wrong with it, you just have to know what your dealing with.
Yes, some do end in horrible rapes and what not, but that happens when you meet someone in person. I think the balance of people are the same online as off. Your going to have weird people wherever you go. The perfect match may be living 1000 miles away and you don't even know it till you meet them online. Which normally you wouldn't have that opportunity. Hope this answer helps and good luck!

I like internet dating because I do shift work and Im quite a shy person. Im a normal attractive girl and I have met some nice normal guys this way - so yes I think the stigma has gone from online dating, I think now it's just a convenient modern way to meet people.

Yeah it's true.
And more people than we'd care to imagine are actually trying to find love on line.
At first I felt ashamed and cheap.
But then I saw a guy on there who I actually had lot of respect for and I accepted that for one thing, there were not just freaks in there, and Two that, well, yes, nowadays people have such a busy life, that, the website is really like shopping.
Who needs to leave their house.
But having said that, after trying, I've realized that it's not for me; and do definitely prefer the real thing; For the buzz you get and the immediate knowledge that you do like or not the person; You know the place, the circumstances, the atmosphere...
I like what's unpredicted about it.
Good luck though.xx

It crossed my mind to post this question earlier! I was actually wondering the same thing. I'm a bit paranoid about it, back in high school I actually did my share of meeting boys online and going to meet them (with friends of course). Some turned out to be fine, but a handful turned out to be weirdos. I mean really weird ones who kept calling and asking for a relationship...even as a young student anyone in their right mind would say no...

Till now I'd still say I'm paranoid about meeting someone online. There's always questions about our own expectations, even if we like chatting with person, in real life, it might be a whole different story. Again, I'm talking from experience.
(FYI, high school was just about 3 yrs back, lol)

I met my BF on line. The relationship is great. And the way I see it, it is even better than meeting somebody outside. You get to talk more, and really learn about eachother.

I mean if you walk into a bar, who is to say, just because you see him/her does not mean he isnt crazy. Any place you meet somebody you have to be careful.

On line, at least you get a feel for the person, you see if he/she is awkward or gives you any strange feelings. The best part is, if they do, you dont ever have to see them.

I personally think it's a bit sad. I've a mate that does it all of the time. Some people are just too shy to walk up to a girl in a club!
