i went there in 1999.
there isn't anything interesting in chartre besides the gothic cathedral.
the atmosphere inside the chathedral changes a lot during the day, depending on how the sun shines through the windows. it's worth staying a couple of hours or just to return later to see the change.

terrific - beautiful but as the other answer said, not a lot around it other than the cathedral.
the blue in the stained glass windows is supposedly perfect.
