I know it's kinda gross, but speaking of weird priorities... It is part of the Ten Commandments. Please do not argue here about what you may think the "real" ten commandments are, this has already been settled...
These ARE the ten commandments (the words of the covenant) that Moses wrote on the tablets and and you can check Exodus 34:28 for yourself and look for the words "עשרת הדברים Aseret ha-Dvarîm," if you wish:
|1. Thou shalt worship no other god...
|2. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods...
|3. The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep...
|4. All that openeth the matrix is mine...
|5. Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest...
|6. Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks...
|7. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven...
|8. Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.
|9. The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring...
|=>10. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk...|

Let me repeat, I am not all that interested in what else "you think" the Ten Commandments are or should be. That's irrelevant.
The above ARE the words of the covenant, the "ten commandments" (the only time the term is actually used in the bible!), the ones Moses wrote on the tablets and God gave, according to the bible.
Check Exodus, chapter 34 again before posting, please. If you think that the Bible is, in fact, the word of God, it should be more important to you what it actually says, not what you think it should say or someone else told you it says... Thanks.

I find it hard to believe that so many of the Christian cultist are so ignorant when it comes to the bible. You are absolutely correct. The first set of tablets upon which god wrote the commandments was smashed by Moses after descending from the mount and seeing that the people had built a golden idol. God then told him to make another set and god himself wrote the words you have cited on those tablets. These tablets were the tablets that were carried in the arc of the covenant.

The lord their god is a jealous and somewhat weird god.

Go in peace to love and serve the truth.

To be fair, I think that was a pagan religious practice and the prohibition was less about cooking and more about not doing the idolatrous stuff the pagans were doing.

Yahweh seemed REALLY keen on making sure he was the only one being worshipped by the Hebrews. Too keen, you might say. Maybe he should have offered more carrots and fewer sticks?

of course these are NOT the ten commandments, theyare part of the unlawful prohibitions. and there are not ONLY ten commandments there are 613 commandments in the jewish laws. many of these are connected to the animal sacrifice which point to the ways of the messiah becoming the sacrificial lamb.
The passover is something else other than the ten commandments. and through the sacrifice of the Lamb Death passes over us and our sins are atoned for therefore we are saved from death unto eternal life if we believe and if we repent.

your the one who needs to re-read exodus. If I thought for an instant you really wanted to know instead of just be swine, you might check that out in the do not cast your pearls section. I will however give you a hint. Most of those types of commandments have to do with health and if you knew why it is not healthy then you would also men did not know why until the 60's.

All God's commandments are just as critical as any of the others. Keeping the Sabbath is just as important as not committing murders. When any one of God commandments were broken it called for blood to be spilled. Do many among us today even know all the commandments of our God... NO! We break the Law without even knowing it is offensive to God.. Jesus took all our sin (the breaking of God's Law) to the cross and paid the terrible penalty. Without Him we are in terrible condition, for we are all horrible sinners if we are not covered by the blood of Christ.. Jim

You really need to learn the bible. Of the list you provide, only items 1,2 and 5 are in the 10 commandments.

While most of the others are commandments (I don't know where you get #4 from) they are not in the 'top 10 list'.

You missed the fundamental point that Christians are far more focused on the New Testament than the Old Testament.
