Short term gain for long term loss.
Unfortunately the dating game excludes any sense of reason and logic, meaning in the short term you can date the least suitable person.
There is also the theory that women like to "Change" a man, so the quiet thoughtful man doesn't get a look in because he is "finished", where-as the guy in the biker jacket can be tamed and over time "changed" and modelled to the woman's liking.
If a woman can't see the nice guys in front of her, that's too bad. They are everywhere if you look.

because it is a perception of 'women' that they can change a 'bad' boy into something or someone else - when it happens the 'woman' gets bored because the 'man' is no longer the person they were attracted to and then they move on to the next 'bad' boy. After all these years you'd think the sexes would have learned by now, but sadly the continuing cycle of relationships spins around endlessly in the same direction.

I have known lots of women who get into relationships with the bloke who has the so called hardman image only to find that the fatal floor is that when he gets drunk he hits out or he changes dramatically from Mr nice guy to a total nightmare.
yet they always get back together however violent he becomes, they used to call it a love hate relationship, I'm not talking about constant abuse this is couples who genuinely want to get out of a relationship and then they completely change their mind as though they have just fallen in love again for the first time.
I could not stand this kind of instability in a relationship yet there are women who seek these men out and hope to tame a lion which they manage for a few months and then the lion escapes and they start all over again as though they just met.
i willnever understand this behaviour.

It's because it's the challenge! If a guy doesn't seem to like us we want to know why and try harder to get him to. I love a challenge. In the beginning when my husband and I first met. He was so needy and called me all the time and I knew I could have him in a heartbeat and that for some reason turned me off. I always loved the guys that made me work for them! Now my husband isn't quite like that anymore and it makes me mad when he doesn't call me as much etc. It's just one of those things about women that can never be understood. :)

That question definitely doesn't apply to all women. I found a man who cared about me and I stuck with him and now we're married. I never was attracted to "the bad guy". I think that women who desire men who didn't even give them a second glance are just insecure and have to prove to themselves that they can "conquer" them.

How can you love someone who barely gives you a 2nd glance? You can't know that person, thus there is no love...perhaps attraction...
Some people are attracted repeatedly to that which they cannot have, or those that don't appear to want to be with them...it just takes time to meet someone with whom the desire to date is mutual.

Human nature to want what we can't have. Also, what appears to be the most exciting boyfriend or girlfriend, often makes the absolute worst partner and mate. In other words we sometimes want what's not good for us. With luck we always don't get what we wish for.

Its because you learn to not appreciate that caring is a privilege and not a right. Human nature to want what we can have and not look at what we do. All I can say is that guys don't normally open their heart and when they do they will do either wonderful things when you respect it or hurtful things when you crush it.

I don't think thats a far question because I wouldn't say all girls do that. Not even most girls, the girls I know me included like guys who pay attention to us thats what attracts us to them.
