You need to clarify somthing, is this Neonatal lupus...or SLE...or systemic lupus that you're talking about. I can't say I've ever heard of a child that young being diagnosed with SLE because the nature of the disease it takes many years to diagnose and one has to have a variety of symptoms such as joint pain, swelling, butterfly rash on the face, heart/kidney/brain involvement. I think the youngest the Lupus patients are diagnosed are in their teen years with most being diagnosed in the late twenties and early thirties. Also Lupus affects Asian Women most prevaliantly...followed by all other groups of women and with men very rarely getting the disease. If your child is a boy then the chances that anyone would have tested or diagnosed SLE is slim and none.

Neonatal lupus however is a different story, this can mimic SLE but isn't long lasting and is usually present at birth till 3 months of age and then never resurfaces. Babies who have neonatal lupus have no higher risk of developing SLE than the general population.

Lastly, dyslexia has nothing to do with Lupus. The same doctors wouldn't diagnose this.

There is always a chance of misdiagnosis so I would recommend following the doctor's advice but still keep an eye on your child and have him re evaluated by another professional in perhaps 6 months to a year.
