Sadly, the previous answers may be correct. Certain groups of our society have attempted [and maybe successfully] to come up with an equivalent of the "n" word to apply to whites.

This has not always been the case. A cracker was the term applied to a southerner and may have referred to a whip cracker who would drive a team of mules. It was not considered racial and not necessarily derogatory. Until 1965, the minor league baseball team was known as the Atlanta Crackers. You can still buy their jerseys on ebay.

Hope this helps.

This is a person, in the southern portion of the United States, who is a little salty or as many say "the salt of the earth." Their personality is a little dry, perhaps crusty even, and their company is best enjoyed with a refreshing beverage. A cracker is can also be defined in economic dollars as those southerners who make over $X amount are no longer considered crackers but instead as Ritz. Hope this explains it for you!

In modern slang, 'cracker' refers to a rural white person from GEORGIA!...The term cannot correctly be used for any other socio-economic group. The term originated during the civil war, but I cannot remember the exact reasons.

A cracker is a white person from Georgia. Ophelia is incorrect in her supposed synonyms. These are not interchangeable terms.

It's just a white person. My friends and I use to call each other that all the time. We would just all laugh. It has nothing to do with social status or how much money you have. Another word that means the same thing is honkey. Doesn't it just sound funny. We would just roll laughing.
