Can any photography pro tell me what Sigma Lenses can be used with the Nikon D50 Digital Camera?
I want to do macro photography, and many stores don't have Nikon Macro Lenses, but I have seen many Sigma Lenses and need to know which are compatible w/ the D50.

Any Sigma lens which has a Nikon lens mount is compatible with your camera. Sigma are a very reputable manufacturer of 'independent' lenses and manufacture them for the usual range of lens mounts (Nikon, Canon, Pentax., Sony/Minolta).

Later. I have seen Nonoy's comments alleging your may experience exposure problems with a Sigma lens. I have been involved with photography for nearly 50 years and have never seen such a statement before, despite regular reading of the photographic press. Exposure is a function that is calculated by the camera, and the lens has nothing to do with it, other than to permit light to reach the cell or cells making those calculations

Sigma is a fine lens, BUT, you could experience metering problems if you use third party lenses on your Nikon D50. Under "automatic" mode, you may end up with an under or over exposed photo. Just be sure you know how to adjust your camera manually in order to properly expose your photo. This is probably the only inconvenience you will experience using third party lenses.

I own one Sigma lens and I decided to get one because its significantly cheaper than its Nikon counterpart and I use it seldomly. If you plan to take a lot of Macro, I suggest you stick to Nikon/Nikkor lenses.

Macro and Zoom lenses are similar. You can get an inexpensive 18-200 lens, or the 18-200 VR lens, or a specialized 105mm VR Macro lens which also could be used as a portrait lens (rotraits are normally between 70-105mm range). WHat I suggest is the 18-200VR which is the best all around lens.

Sigma is a Lense manufacturing company and they make lenses for all leading cameras. You can buy any zoom lens or macro lens suitable mount for Nikon. As the camera has a smallCCD sensor, the lens power shows as 1.6x closer. So if you buy a 28mm lens, it will not give that much wide angle and you should buy an 18 mm lens to get the 28mm.
Nikkor lenses have its own contrast in pictures.

no matter what a sigma will always be slower in focusing than a nikon or canon lens. the lens mount is the same for all the nikon cameras since 1953 or something like that, but they just tried to throw in autofocus. most of the time though, nikons are geared more towards manual focus people. quite frankly, if I owned a nikon body, I would only buy nikon lenses for it.
