Yeah, Stewart was almost correct, except for the small fact that there is no street in Edinburgh called 'Princess Street'. There is however a Princes Street and at the east end lies Register House. Type this into Google and it should help you out some. You can also type in 'births, deaths and marriages'.

Alternatively, just go here:

try:

scotlandspeople.gov.uk

A site which has online birth, marriage and death certificates covering all of Scotland from the 1700s. It is run by the General register office of Scotland and the National Archives of Scotland in Edinburgh.

You have to pay money to see the certificates online - for example £6 - gives you a few credits to view them. They take international credit cards online. In addition, when viewing the certficates you can print them out using your internet browser.

Much cheaper than flying to Scotland from the USA! Hope this helps.

If you know the district in which the births were registered you could try contacting the registry office for that area.

i dont know how much help it is but many local library's have census records etc or their is registrar offices but i think it would have to be the office that births /deaths where registered at ! but i do think the main registrar office in edinburgh would probably have acess to them all ! don't know how much use that will be but could be worth a try
