Since I have so many photos the thought of sitting here and scanning individually would be cumbersum. Brand and model help would be appreciated. I also have the negatives for these photos, but not in any particualar order. Would I be better off trying to scan those into the computer -- ?

There are auto feed scanners, but I do my family genealogy and after handling these precious bits of history I really do not recommend putting the older ones through a auto feeder and take the chance on damaging them. Many of mine are over a hundred years old. Still more are fifty to sixty years old. Some of the coatings are sticky and will jam the feeds. Or the paper is extra thick and they crack as they are rolled around the feed to be scanned. Any of the newer photos with a means to make more are not a problem, but those you rarely need to scan. Instead of taking a chance on damaging them get together with one or more of your family and help each other. Make it an enjoyable family fun. This also allows help for missing names, dates, and where was that. Then you can make copies for those that helped as you shared the work. Also while you are scanning your photos please remember to scan at least one of every person and at least one of major family event in a large enough resolution so that when someone "maybe you, maybe your kids or even great-grand children wants to print one they will not be disappointed to find you saved them only for slide shows and they print like a bad newspaper photos.
