When will our troops be brought out of Iraq? It bothers me that they are still there, well and truly in harms way and with no end in sight. How much longer before the politicians sort out an exit strategy - surely if it isn't soon we could accuse them of a gross dereliction of duty or for being 'not fit for purpose'!!!!! How do others feel (Americans as well as you've lost far more young men and women than we have, you must be getting uneasy too)

If the majority of British voters did not want and do not want our troops dying in some corner of a foreign field (dessert), isn't there something we can do about it?

Joseph ma - you may have some good ideas but you'll need to change your tone and style if you wish to make friends and influence people. Don't be patronising mate, we're not idiots on this messageboard.

we *made* iraq a breeding ground for terrorists. al qaeda was not in iraq until after we invaded and took out the old government. And then we installed an opposition government, which led to a bloody civil war. So now it is a big huge mess. It won't end well. Our best option would be to go to the UN and get on our hands and knees and beg for a UN mission in Iraq to clean it up. Maybe we'll even start paying our UN dues to make up for it.

Nah, the republican government has way too much sinful pride to do that.

It astounds me that this bothers civilians but it doesn't bother the Marines or Soldiers.

It's just paradoxical!

It's like we have a bunch of whining, wailing women clueless to what's going on and continually irritating everyone else.

Perhaps you should get a clue and read some literature. Ever since the Olympics in Munich, terrorist organizations have been slaughtering non-Muslims all over the Middle East, and our troops in Iraq is about 30 years overdue.

Bush has never had an exit strategy because he's one of the few politicians left in Washington with enough backbone to send a clear message to the Iraqi people that we won't abandon them this time.

The solution to Middle East problems is "permenant bases". Say it with me: "permenant bases", "long-term presence", "stay the course".

The only reason anyone would want to bring the troops home is if they think we're losing. And if that's what you're thinking, you've been suckered by the terrorist-enabling media.

(What is it about mass murder that you people don't get?)

I think if the troops in Iraq come out the better for both sides.
I believe that the presence of foreign troops their just adds to the violence.Their just some organizations that fight the allies simply because they are there. The war is won, establish a new Iraq and bring the troops home.It would be a good idea for the troops to complete duties and train the Iraqi soldiers and to bring up proper infrastructure in Iraq as soon as possible.

If we just pull out our troops it will be like a slap in the face to all those who died, or were injured in Iraq. All of those men and women will have died in vein. Maybe we shouldn't have been there in the first place, that is an agrument for another day, but we are and we have to forget what should've been.

Ask a Vietanm Vet how they feel when we pulled out of Vietnam and lost that war? Many feel that it was horrible war that Kennedy and Johnson got us into, and by the time Nixon came into office(January 1969) we were too deep into the war(1968 was the worst with over 14,000 US deaths) to just pull out. Deaths dropped to 9000 in '69 and 4000 in '70 and 1000 in '71 and never reached over 1000 again. It was a slow withdrawl taking until 1976 and Gerald Ford. Over 60,000 us troops died in Vietnam and many Vietnam vets feel what they gave was for nothing because Nixon felt pressure to pull us out, instead of fighting on. Compare todays attitude to that of Vietnam.

Maybe we shouldn't been in either of these wars, but don't let your disagreement with the war or your hatred of Bush make the lives of our soldiers meaningless. Pulling out before the job is done would do that. Imagine if after losing 3000 lives we said, you know what, lets leave Europe, Hitler isn't our problem?

We have troops still stationed in Korea, Japan and Germany-as well as many other places all around this planet! They live a Country Club existence because we have them still there for no justifiable reason whatsoever!
With as many good and decent Iraqi's dying everyday because of criminal elements backed by Iran, I would say that our presence is justified, requested and needed!
If we did not have a thing to do with anything-which I am proud to say is not the case(We did help free them)-who would deny the free and sovereign Country of Iraq our help during this time of crises and need! I would swear I hear turkeys saying we should go into Darfur-because they are in a crises!

Yes our troops need to come out but would that be fair on the Iraqi civilians...they never asked for the war and will probably end up in the middle of a civil war without foreign troops there to keep the peace. You think Britain would have realised what happened in Northern Ireland but no too many big heads in power still.

If troops were sent out now the country would turn to caos. They say they will leave when government forces have full control. I'm not sure that will be soon. I'm from Britain and people need to realise that we shouldn't rush to get our troops out because we need to give the whole thing time. We invaded the country so have a responsibility to look after the country.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but the way I feel, this war has only just begun. It's not just a war against Iraq, It's a war against terrorism. By the time the war is over in Iraq, they next one will begin in another country. No doubt about it. Adn if we just try to go back to sticking to ourselves, it will only be a year or two before they come over here and we get attacked again. The global war on terror is just beginning. Afghanistan and Iraq just happened to be the first places we treid to clean up.

Personally i did not agree with the war for numerous reasons i will not go into... My hubby is in the uk army currently deployed in iraq ....I did not wish for him to go .. but god love him he is proud to serve his queen and country and not once did he question the orders ...He loves his job and has no wishes to come home .I seriously doubt that we will be exiting as we have done that before and left a country in tatters we need to rebuild the country regardless of human cost and i am proud of my hubby for serving his duty .I refuse to watch the news as i get angry i get angry at the lies like they have all they need bullshi* my hubby is living in appalling conditions and will come home needing consant support he never talks about what happened and i do not feel i would want to know all i can do is be there .Politicians talk a good talk but they cant do a good walk all we have to worry about next is what muppet takes over from blair

It seems to me that we can withdraw from Iraq and risk the possibility of losing a few thousand citizens to random terrorists attacks at home, or we can keep sending troops to Iraq and guarantee that a few thousand of our citizens will be killed overseas.

3,000 US soldiers have died over there. How many people could have been rescued from the wreckage of 9/11 if there had been 3,000 soldiers on the scene to help with the disaster recovery? How many lives could have been saved in Hurricane Katrina if 3,000 soldiers had been sent to help? How many American lives could be saved every day by at $10 billion increase in Healthcare?
