Microsoft has finally released some specifics about Vista:

Windows (Recommended minimum hardware requirements):
1-gigahertz (GHz) 32-bit (x86) processor or 1-GHz 64-bit (x64) processor
1 GB RAM
40-GB hard disk that has 15 GB of free hard disk space (the 15GB of free space provides room for temporary file storage during the install or upgrade.)
Internal or external DVD drive
A Windows Aero-capable graphics card : Supports a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver, Has a DirectX 9-class graphics processor unit (GPU) that supports Pixel Shader 2.0, Supports 32 bits per pixel, Passes the Windows Aero acceptance test in the Windows Driver Kit (WDK)
Internet access capability
Audio output capability

Windows (Minimum hardware requirements):
800-MHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
512 MB
20 GB, 15 GB Free Space
CD drive
SVGA (800x600) graphics card and display

Two key things to note: First, Microsoft has always under-estimated the minimums necessary to run any previous operating system. Case in point is XP. MS says it will run on 64MB RAM. Yeah, it'll run..... but it takes at least 256MB to run WELL. Second thing is whether or not your computer "Passes the Windows Aero acceptance test." If your computer can't pass the test, Vista will NOT install all its components. So you might get something that's not any better than XP Home. Just a couple of things to consider.

well it comes on DVD, think the DVD is 2-3gb. This will be more when uncompressed but probably won't transfer all of the stuff to your drive.

short answer I don't know exactly
