Belfast itself isn't that amazing although there are some nice restaurants and good clubs to go to and some interesting historical buildings (I live here and speak with some 31 years experience of it). You are no more than about 2 hours from the furthest point in Northern Ireland, so by hiring a car you can travel to the Marble Arch Caves (Enniskillen), the Giants Causeway (Antrim Coast), Downpatrick (Home of St Patrick), Stormont Castle (home of the NI Assembly).
www.discovernorthernireland.com
and www.nitb.com should give you some ideas of places to visit and stay in NI.

Belfast is smaller than Edinburgh, so I'd take the advice from an earlier answer and hire a car. Then you can see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world such as the Glens of Antrim, Giants Causeway etc.
Edinburgh is also a great city, so whatever you choose your in a win/win situation.
A few people were suggesting Dublin. Another great city - lots of fun, but I would only recommend it over Edinburgh and Belfast if you want a slightly wilder time. Have fun.

ah well, I'm an Edinburgh kid, and would seriously recommend my town over Belfast.
With 4 days in Belfast, I'd rent a car and drive to a few other places as well. 4 days in Edinburgh are pretty easy to lose with no car.
It depends what you're into, though I doubt you'll be into anything that Edinburgh can't provide.

I would say Edinburgh. have done both, and didn't feel as if I'd want to return to Belfast. Have you thought about Dublin though - now there's a city!

Edinburgh for sure... Besides, I don't think you will need 4 days in Belfast, but in Edinburgh, 4 days are perfect.
I'm Chinese living in Canada.

We spent 3 days in Edinburgh recently and it was fantastic. Try Edinburgh Castle, the Dungeons, Dynamic Earth....there's plenty to do, and the people were great - and I'm English!

I did. 3 years in the past we've been in Dublin for a weekend (stayed best in the middle at Temple Bar) and that i wore a Rangers jersey on a city bus excursion and while we visited Trinity college....had no issues in any respect....even had quite a few 'thumbs up' signs and indicators. there is extra anti-Rangers diatribe from the somewhat some JungleTim morons who generic those web pages (understanding they are nameless and proof against getting found out) than there is in the streets of Dublin or the different significant city in the international.

Im from Dublin..... yes Do Dublin sometime, (not prettier)
