Use 08444626464 from a landline and then put the mobile number in when it asks, it costs 2 pence a minute. I use it everyday and it costs me about a £10 a month.

Skype or another voice chat(like MSN) is the cheapest way, but depending where your friend lives he/she may not have a PC or broadband. Using Skypeout while being cheaper than regular long distance is still pretty expensive. If there is broadband available buy him/her a laptop and give them enough bread to get a decent internet conn. Calling cards are by far the least expensive route, but be warned, some cards are CHEAP, not inexpensive. Depending on where you are and what calling card you try you'll get different results. This site is pretty good http://www.callingcards.com/ but if you look around you can find cheaper. Please note there are different rates from landlines than handphones. Also when getting a calling card, make sure they have a dial in number that is a local toll for you or toll free, or use your cell phone :)

You don't state where you will call from (mobile, PC, landline). If phoning from a mobile consider MobileWorld from the Carphone Warehouse which will cost 15p/min according to their website

skype or www.telediscount.co.uk

I reckon skype (or skypeout, in fact) is usually a bit cheaper for mobiles, but check anyway. I use both, a lot, and apart from the occasional skype burbling, I've never had any problems. The billing is fair and accurate in both.
